I was having the oil changed in my Camry when an incredibly pushy salesman tried to sell me a car. I told him I was not interested several times but he still kept trying to convince me that getting a Tundra was better for me than keeping my paid-off-in-two-years Camry. He kept on and kept on and kept on... it all had a rape-y vibe to it. No means no! I’m a 6'1" 300+ lb linebacker type so I can’t imagine how this dude treats women who couldn’t beat his ass. The next time I’mma get loud.
Anyway, even though I felt dirty after the exchange I did find this little gem - a CH-R with a market adjustment of $2000. Lord, bless this dealership and its misunderstanding of supply and demand.

That’s really skeezy. I think I’d worry about getting service there, yikes! Although I’ve worked at a dealership - there can be night and day differences between service and sales.
Finally, shouldn’t that ‘market adjustment’ be a reduction? :) :)

Dealers like that are 100% why I change my own oil. Its like paying for cable TV and still having to watch ads. I would gladly pay more to do it myself just to avoid that bullshit. Saving money is just an added bonus.

That’s how the adjustment reads, somebody just didn’t do the addition correctly.

Or itemize the other $738 buried in there. I calculate the price to be $21,944 - think they’ll take that for it? :)

Wow, they import the C-HR from Turkey?

The 738 is the tint and pinstriping stuff listed there. But they forgot how to add a negative number.

Yeah, I know - but in my mind the 738 should be listed out to the right. A quick read makes you think they want $2,000 over sticker, not $2,738. Slightly sneaky IMHO.

I kinda like the C-HR but then I saw the ad campaign and now want nothing to do with the little Juke-like thing.

Again, the dealership model is there to PROTECT THE CONSUMER!

That’s a lot of money for a 2WD faux-C-pillard faux adventure vehicle made in Turkey.

right there with you. I’ve seen some old ones (not sold in the US) with tri spoke wheels that looks really awesome as well

Wheels and ride height completely change these into funky cool lukewarm hatches which would make awesome daily drivers. Not to mention gas mileage would be pretty good.

The problem is, sometimes it works. My dad just traded his nearly paid off ‘13 Silverado for a new ‘17 Silverado, while he was in for an oil change.

There’s a right and wrong way to do this. If somebody is waiting on their car to get an oil change, and a salesman politely offers a test drive of a new model? No problemo. I’d honestly think that’s a good way to sell more cars.
They have to do it in a way that isn’t pushy though.

The service department has been great so far. The sales department seems to have constant turnover. I’ve never seen the same sales staff from one oil change to the next.

I know that’s probably why he kept on with his bullshit. I even told him that my ultimate goal is to be 100% debt free and a new car at any payment is the opposite of that. Still, he pressed on

I think that’s all pretty common. There are probably a few good sales people there, but they may be hard to find.
Service usually has people there for a longer time.

It is amazing how tone-deaf some of them can be.

I know, right. I kinda lied though... my goal is to be 100% debt free except for a big honkin’ Ram dually or a Tundra but I wasn’t about to tell him that.

I really want someone to try and sell me on nitrogen one day so I can shut them down and tell them how stupid they are.

I don’t know know how Toyota works but every dealership I’ve ever been to says that the car was distributed by Gulf States Toyota and they all have the same few markups - lusterizing paint sealant, pint stripe, fabric protection, nitrogen and sometimes tint. I wonder how you avoid getting those needless markups?

You probably can’t and have to just walk away. Or they “lower” price and still make off like bandits.
